TREKKING APOLO –RURRENABAQUE (14 DAYS)
THE MADIDI NATIONAL PARK
 The
Madidi National Park of Northwest Bolivia was created in 1995 and
protects a full array of tropical ecosystems . From the high Andes
to the Amazon basin, Madidi´s vast wilderness of 4.500.000
acres encompasses unparalleled biological diversity ranging from
mountain cloud forest to dry tropical forest , humid lowland rainforest
to savannah , wild rivers and lakes.
Madidi National Park´s mountains , forest and riverside habitat
is home to more than 1.000 species of birds , 44% of new world species
of mammals , and an estimated 38% of neotropical amphibians . The
tropical Andes, where Madidi is located is also a globally critical
hotspot of plantendemism.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 3
DAY 1
LA PAZ –APOLO
(15 hrs). We leave from La Paz (3.600 m) in a 4WD early in the morning.
We take the route to go as far as El Alto city (4.000 mts.), then
we take the way to the east cost of the sacred Titikaka lake, then
we get a typical Andean landscape, with paja bravas, potato plantations
and llamas and alpacas . We descent as far as Charazani town, where
we will meet the KALLAWAYAS or Andean doctors , we go down for wriggle
ways and get to Los Yungas with great views, and then we reach Apolo
town . 1500 m. Hotel
DAY 2
APOLO-MACHUA
Free morning: After lunch we go by car (2 hr.) to Machua. Camping
DAY 3
MACHUA-TOMEA ALTA
We start descending on an Inca trail also we can see coca plantations,
after a hard ways we arrive to Toma Alta (1200 m) 7 hrs.trek. Camping
DAY 4
TOMEA ALTA –PIÑALITO
We still descending as far as Piñalito, where we will find
the rests of the Inca culture (7 hrs. trek).. Camp 1.020 mts..
DAY 5
PIÑALITO-MAMACONA
We take the small paths, the weather is hotter and we get the forest
were we can see with a little bit of lucky different kinds of birds
such us: parrots, papagayos, falcons, eagles ,etc, and some mammals
typical of this area like: jochis, capiwaras, deers, monkeys, etc.
arrive to mamacona (6 hrs.trek) . Camp at 930 mts.
DAY 6
MAMACONA-PALO GRANDE
We continuing descending were the path is more difficult to walk
for the vegetation and the humidity, finally we will fine an easy
way for arrive to Palo Grande (780 m). (7 hrs.trek) Camping
DAY 7
PALO GRANDE- ESLABON
We keep descending as far as mountainous area, where we can see
in the distance of the tropical forest the area of the Tuhichi valley
.Arrive to Eslabon (600 m). (7 hrs.trek). Camping.
DAY 8
ESLABON-PICO PLANCHA
During the trek our local tacan's tribe guide will show us the variety
of the medicinal plants and the poison plants. Arrive to pico plancha
(550 m) (7 hrs. trek) . Camping
DAY 9
PICO PLANCHA –TUHICHI RIVER AND
CANOE TO SAN JOSE
Finnally we will reach the Tuhichi river, from There we will sail
(1.30 hrs.) by motor canoe to San José de Uchupiamonas where
is the hamlet of the tacana tribe. (5 Hrs treck). Camping
DAY 10
CANOE TO CRUZE RIO TUHICHI-RIO BENI
Sailing down to the entrance to the Beni river (6 hrs). Camping
riverside
DAY 11
CANOE TO RURRENABAQUE
Sailing down to Rurrenabaque, the most famous Bolivia's jungle city
(4 Hrs). Hotel
DAY 12
PAMPAS TOUR
3 hrs. drive in a 4WD to Santa Rosa, 3 hrs sail in the river Yacuma
the Bolivian Natural ZOO where we will see animals like: monkeys,
alligators, pink dolphins, capiwaras, turtles and many kind of birds.
Camping.
DAY 13
PAMPAS TOUR AND RETURN TO RURRENABAQUE
In the morning we will go to explore the terrain and look for the
anacondas the worlds biggest snake. Return to the camping (aprox
5 hrs trek), after lunch return to Rurrenabaque. Hotel
DAY 14
RURRENABAQUE –LA PAZ
Return to La Paz by commercial flight.
THE TOUR INCLUDES: private transportation 4WD La Paz-Apolo,
transfer airport-hotel-airport, English guide, local guide an porters
(of the Tacana Tribe), cook, meals, camping & cooking gear, boat,
first aid kit, shared pampas tour, 1 night lodge in Apolo, 2 nights
Hotel* Rurrenabaque. and commercial flight Rurrenabaque-La Paz.
NOT INCLUDED: sleeping bag, backpack, tips, entrance to the
national parks, Hotels and meals in the city of La Paz.
**The trekking from Apolo to Rurrenabaque can be private (min.
3 persons) or shared depending from the number of persons.
Due to the extreme tour conditions are accepted maximum 5 people
in each expedition
Treatment against malaria and yellow fever are required
Remember that for almost a week you will be out of everything's
NOTHING WILL BE WITH YOU EXCEPT YOURSELF,
AND THE PEOPLE THAT GOES WITH YOU in the very deep Amazon jungle.
THE PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING
Trekking shoes (water resistant), sandals, light clothes,
light sleeping bag, rain coat and trousers, sun hat, sun block,
sun glasses, extra personal back pack, torch, knife, water bottle,
personal first aid kit, water purification tablets, mosquitos repellent,
mosquito net is suggested .
